The Way We Work

This is where you will usually find a firm’s “philosophy.”  Our philosophy is to be practical and straightforward so here we tell you how we work.  How we work is driven by who we are.

While some of our attorneys “grew up” with the firm, others have come to us over the years from large and small private firms, from in-house positions with companies and from government.  From these backgrounds, we know firsthand the importance of personal service and availability as well as the high standards of work turned out consistently by the best firms.  We are united by a single purpose:  To provide high quality advice and representation thoroughly and efficiently to achieve a client’s objectives.

Every client, from the large institution to the individual, receives personal attention and constant availability from the partner responsible for the client’s work.  The work is done by the attorney or attorneys with the appropriate expertise and level of experience.

The client is kept advised of the status of the work and, as much as is possible, the estimated cost of the work.  Clients that know what to expect are not surprised or disappointed.  If an additional issue arises — tax consequences in a transaction, bankruptcy issues in litigation, estate planning issues in organizing a business — real expertise is available within our firm, which possesses an unusually broad array of such specialized knowledge for a firm of our size.

If attorneys in another jurisdiction are needed, as in international transactions or disputes, we call on attorneys that we know and work with around the world.  They become members of a coordinated team.  We know we can rely on them just as they rely on us to assist their clients in the United States.

We strongly advise clients at the outset of a project to work with us to envision clearly what the goal is of the project.  We help you to understand the range of likely benefits, but also the likely costs and risks and the time the project will take.  Then we plan our work to achieve your objectives as efficiently as possible.  We do not use gold where steel will do.  Then we follow up, keep you informed, and adjust the plan with you, if and as necessary.  We never let the case take on a life of its own.
