EVW Partner Martin Garbus To Attend Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival

Eaton & Van Winkle partner Martin Garbus will be both an attendee and participant in the 10th Annual Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival, a five-day affair that begins on November 30 at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, NY.

The festival was created to allow private screenings of documentaries. In the ten years since its inception, the popularity of documentaries has exploded, thanks to the changing media landscape that has created a multitude of new platforms with a need for substantive content.

One of those who has stepped up and produced quality content is Mr. Garbus’ daughter Liz. Her documentary, Shouting Fire: Stories From The Edge Of Free Speech will be screened at this year’s festival. Mr. Garbus will be on hand both to support his daughter and to participate in a Q&A with her after the film is shown.

The festival’s celebration of substantive films in general and Liz Garbus’ specific focus on free speech issues, make for the ideal venue for Mr. Garbus. His career has been spent at the intersection of both First Amendment law and and entertainment law. He has represented stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Al Pacino, Robert Redford, Sean Connery and more. Mr. Garbus has won important legal victories for free speech on behalf of names like comedian Lenny Bruce, best-selling author Robert Sam Anson, radio personality Don Imus and many more.

Martin Garbus is the head of Eaton & Van Winkle’s First Amendment Law Group, our Civil Rights Litigation Group and our Entertainment & Sports Law Practice Area. His most recent high-profile legal victory came this past summer, on behalf of former baseball star Pete Rose.
